Issue Six: The Music Issue

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010

EDITORS NOTE

In this issue, SIDEVIEW will be taking a side-view and focal point on Music. Pop culture plays a huge role in our daily lives and as a new Art lover I was inspired by Andy Warhol’s 1960s poster of Marilyn Monroe. Pop art was a visual movement that emerged in the mid 1950s in Britain and in the late 1950s in America which coincided with the youth and pop music culture. It became very much a part of the image of fashionable, ‘swinging’ London that brought about a cultural revolution. So, what comes to mind when you think of pop art? Colourful, Fun, and Bold, – if those words come to mind then that’s exactly what we thought. With the booming African Entertainment industry, there are alot of influential african artistes making waves in the music industry at home and abroad injecting their personalities through the colourful and bold styles that Pop arts displays. What better way to showcase them than by creating this special pop art cover of a strong visual link between the African artists and popular culture. We interview West African Idol winner, Timi Dakolo, Hip Hop artist Sasha, R n B duo P Square and The Choc Bois (with the exception of one member) and found about their likes, dislikes, and how they have manage to keep their feet firmly on ground with all the hype and fame as the entertainment Industry continues to grow rapidly.

You must be thinking how did we do it? Let’s just say it was great working with all these talented artists. From J-town to London Town, the Choc Bois talk about life as artists, why they love fashion and producer/songwriter, Jesse Jagz talks about what ticks him off. The talented Sasha gets personal as she reveals plans for her fashion label “Eclectic by Sasha” and what inspires her as an artist. (Page 37)

We are very excited as our readers enjoy the benefits of reading 8 extra pages.This issue is packed with our favourite high street shops, style advice and some pictures from our Launch Party. Our Beauty Editor and Celebrity hair stylist Eugene Davis, will be giving our readers a detailed guide on how to achieve catwalk inspired hair; like the textured quiff. Beauty Writer and Make up artist Imelda Ladebo will show you how to get the look like Rihanna at the Grammys. (Page 58) Again, SIDEVIEW magazine would like to express our appreciation to our guests, who helped raise money towards the Haiti appeal. We are very excited to announce our Issue 6 release party for ‘The Music Issue’ and live photoshoot on the 1st of April at Faaji Finchley Road. This will give our readers a chance to see the SIDEVIEW team in action. Proceeds from the night will be donated to Marie Curie to provide nursing care to terminally ill people. You really don’t want to miss out on this. And we haven’t forgotten Mother’s day, which is just round the corner. Fashion Editor Ronke Fashola answers your fashion dilemmas on the best gift to show great appreciation to our mothers for all they do and stay beautiful doing it. (Page 54)

Hope you enjoy reading it, as much as we enjoyed making it.

Have a great month,

Issue Five: The Glamour Issue

Sunday, January 24th, 2010

EDITOR’S NOTE
5
Its that time of the year again, its a new year and we are kicking off the year with The Glamour Issue and our 5th issue yet. It seems like yesterday we were just running around trying to get Side View off the ground!
This month we interview three amazing women who are all dominating their chosen line of work. We get up close and personal with the super talented musician Rhona Bennett as she opens up to us about love, life and being part of one of the most successful female groups, En Vogue. We also feature Entrepreneur and News reporter Robyne Robinson and her fabulous Jewellery line, Rox and International Model Betsie Dsane talks to us about working with Madonna and life as a model (Page24 ). Celebrity make up artist and photographer, D’Andre Michael’s beauty spread takes you through the seasons trends, we are crazy for smoky eyes, metallic and greys, perfect for the award season (Page 27).
We at Side View have decided to let our hair down and put on our dancing shoes. We are hosting our Launch party in London on the 20th of February at Clause Bar (Coko Bar). It’ll be an opportunity for you to meet our contributors and for us to meet our lovely readers. So please join us as we to toast to the start of an amazing new year.
New Year’s resolutions – the year starts with a long list of resolutions . As usual, most of us start off on a good note, then we gradually crawl back into our old shells. This year, its all about consistent changes, more importantly finding what works for me. My New years resolution is simply; learning how to live the moment and creating a ‘me’ time where I do absolutely nothing; some say that’s impossible but I say- its possible! Off course I was not the only one who had to reveal their resolutions, here’s what the team had to say:

Eugene Davis, Beauty Editor;
To have a deeper faith that God can and will do it for me, believe that I am destined for greatness and not let my foolish insecurities stand in the way of making the impossible, possible. I’m knocking down barriers in 2010. Fred Nwonwu,

Lifestyle & Culture writer;
No more slacking, to take the bull by horn and throw it into my achievement bag as soon as it comes around. Did I mention my resolve to get married to Miss right this year?

Tinu Adesugba, Events Coordinator;
To eat less junk and eat more healthy food and also keep to my fitness regime and not only exercise my body but my mind.

D’Andre Michael Creative Photographer;
To stay healthy, have prosperity and succeed in anything I do

Finally I would like to wish all of you an amazing Year ahead. Enjoy life and don’t forget to stay fabulous!
